"It looks adorable but I think, for small children, a uniform is a waste," said Stacie High, Maddox's mother.
"I like to use hand-me-downs because he's going to wreck his clothes. Most of his pants have holes in the knees."'
Lisa Corritore, whose children will be returning to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School in September, said the mandatory clothes could be costly for some families as they will need to purchase clothing for school as well as other items.
"A dress code is good but it is hard to build a wardrobe for two kids. We still have to buy regular clothes and they're still growing."

Director of education John Crocco says the standardized elementary dress code is not a uniform as parents can purchase clothing at the retailer of their choice.

"The bottom line is as long as it's a navy blue or white shirt or blue pants or dresses, they can be purchased any where. Parents have the opportunity to purchase clothing that is economical, durable and comfortable from any retail store that will fit every family budget."

"To me that's not bad and my son doesn't have to spend time in the morning to pick out what he's going to wear."
Jennifer Kimonos, who has children at Loretto Catholic Elementary School, supports the new dress code.
"I'm all for it," said the mother of three. "I was born and raised Catholic and I've always felt that the Catholic schools should be separated from the public schools and this is a great way to do it."
A self-professed savvy shopper, Kimonos started shopping for back-to-school clothes last March.
"We want to equalize our students in our schools, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds," he said.
The dress code process began in 2011, with letters sent to 21,000 families with students in the board, asking them for feedback. In May 2012, changes were incorporated by a board committee into a draft policy.
